Depotting Eyeshadows/Blushes!

So, as you may or may not know, I was a pro-makeup artist. I had to retire due to some nasty back issues. Anyway, I was going through one of my old photo files and found this tutorial on how to depot eyeshadows/blushes.

This is what the results where:

nars blushes

Here’s the how to!

What you will need:

  • Eyeshadow/Blush
  • Palette to put the depotted eyeshadow/blush in (I used the Yaby empty magnetic palette.)
  • Something to warm the glue (I used a coffee mug warmer picked up from Walgreen’s.)
  • A knife (to remove the eyeshadow/blush from it’s case) and/or Exacto knife
  • Plain paper to stick on the bottom of the removed eyeshadow/blush

Step 1:

Warm eyeshadow for about 1 minute. Try not to keep the eyeshadow on there too long! Especially for cream shadows as they will start to melt.

Step 2:

Carefully insert the knife between the case and the eyeshadow pan.  It should come up easily, but if it doesn’t don’t try to force it as you will break the shadow/blush. If it’s not coming up easily put it back on the warmer for a moment longer. Then try again.

Loose Eyeshadow!

Step 3 – Do this step while the glue is still tacky from the mug heater.

I use the little plastic guard that comes with the eyeshadows to place on the back over the glue.

Or you can also place the freed eyeshadow/blush on a blank piece of paper so you can cut out a back for it.

Step 4

Warm the empty case to loosen up the sticker on the back.

Step 5

Peel it carefully from the empty case.

Then place it on the freed eyeshadow and Wa La! Your eyeshadow is free and ready to be put in the palette of your choice!
